About The Atelier
The studio at the top of the house.
An atelier is the workroom you climb up to reach — and that's the job description. The Atelier is the positioning studio of Home Abroad. We work with founders, operators, and established voices whose reputation is loud everywhere except their Substack: real credibility, a live publication, and numbers that don't reflect either.
We don't sell Substack tips and we don't hand over strategy decks. We make the positioning call — the one idea your name should own — then build the system it runs on and keep it shipping. The method has a name because it's the same every time: Position → Build → Ship → Compound.
Three ways up
- Authority Audit — from $500
- The positioning verdict, a full teardown of your publication, and a build blueprint of 10–15 moves ranked by impact. Delivered in 5–7 days as a working document plus a live walkthrough. The fee comes off the Positioning System if you upgrade within 30 days.
- Positioning System — from $1,500
- The full build over 2–3 weeks: positioning and voice on paper, your Substack designed and cleaned up, a template kit, a Notion command centre, and a 90-day calendar. You leave with the thing switched on, not a list of recommendations.
- Growth Retainer — from $850/mo
- The system, kept alive monthly: 15–20 Notes planned, written, and designed; long-form steered; assets batched; growth analysed; your Authority Score re-run quarterly so progress is measurable. You write the essays. We run the machine.
Prices are founding rates and rise publicly, one rung per ten clients of each service. They never come back down, and there are no backroom discounts.
Who it's for — and not
For: experts with a real track record and a live, recently active Substack that's stuck — typically under a thousand subscribers with little engagement. You can invest, you're calm rather than desperate, and you want authority that feeds the business you already have.
Not for: anyone whose main income is their newsletter, or who already runs a large publication. You need scale tactics; we build foundations. Capacity is fixed at two audits and one system build a month alongside five or six retainers — when it's full, it's full.
Who runs it
Kaila Krayewski has spent twenty years building businesses abroad with words at the centre: editor of luxury travel magazines in Bangkok, seven years running social for the Shangri-La hotel group, an editing desk for legendary copywriter David Deutsch, co-owner of a thriving villa-development company, and founder of a content agency she built, ran, and handed on.
In July 2025 she launched Home Abroad from zero. A year later: 1.9K+ subscribers, a recognised voice, and the exact playbook The Atelier now runs for clients — tested on her own name first, in public, with the receipts on the front page of this site.
Alongside her: a small studio handling systems, design, and delivery.
