Atelier, next to the alternatives.
There are several honest ways to get help with a Substack, and they solve different problems. Here is what each one does, and who it is right for, so you can pick the one that fits and not simply the one that found you first.
Atelier vs a Substack ghostwriter — which do I need?
A ghostwriter produces words. Atelier decides what the publication is for, builds the system around it and keeps it shipping. If your problem is that you can't find the time to write, hire a ghostwriter. If your problem is that nobody can say what your Substack is for, a ghostwriter will give you more of it, faster.
Atelier vs a Substack coach or course?
A coach or course gives you a framework and you do the building. Atelier does the deciding and the building with you: the positioning call, the design, the templates, the calendar and the command centre. Choose a coach if you want to learn the craft yourself. Choose Atelier if you want the publication built and running.
Atelier vs a freelance Substack setup?
A freelance setup is usually a one-off: logo, welcome email, a few templates. Atelier starts earlier, with the audit and the positioning verdict, so what gets set up is the right thing, and the Signature Build and Growth Retainer keep it moving after launch.
Atelier vs a generic marketing or newsletter agency?
Atelier only works on Substack, and only on authority: making one specific person the recognised name for something. A general agency will run channels and campaigns. We make the positioning call and build the Substack publication itself.
Atelier vs a Substack audit tool?
An audit tool tells you what is wrong. Atelier's free Authority Score does that too, in 10 to 15 minutes, with every judgement quoting your actual publication. What a tool can't do is make the call and do the fixing, which is what the builds are for.
At a glance
| Option | What it gives you | Right when |
|---|---|---|
| Ghostwriter | Words, on a schedule | You know what to say and lack the time |
| Coach or course | A framework to apply yourself | You want to learn the craft and have the hours |
| Freelance setup | A one-off set of assets | The positioning is already settled |
| Marketing agency | Channels and campaigns | You sell a product at volume |
| Audit tool | A diagnosis | You will do the fixing yourself |
| Atelier | The call, the build and the running | Your credibility is real and your Substack undersells it |

Who Atelier is not for
Anyone whose main income is their newsletter, or who already runs a large publication: you need scale tactics, and we build foundations. Anyone who wants words written for them and nothing else. Capacity is fixed at one Founding Build and one Signature Build a month, alongside five or six retainers.
